Here’s a look at what’s new on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list…
Gleeful finale: There’s nothing Grimm about this fairy-tale ending. Chris Colfer lands at No. 2 this week with The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide, the sixth and final book in his best-selling series for kids. (The full list will be published on Thursday.)
It’s the highest ranking ever for the young author and former Glee star.
His previous best showing was No. 4 last year with The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey, book five. The series, which began in 2012 with The Wishing Spell (which peaked at No. 42), revolves around girl-and-boy twins Alex and Conner Bailey and their adventures in the world of fairy tales.
In Worlds Collide, Alex goes missing, the fairy-tale characters escape the confines of their storybook worlds, and the Big Apple braces for mayhem.
The next big step for the series is the movies. The Wishing Spell has been optioned by Twentieth Century Fox, with Colfer set to direct and write the script.
On the Today show, Colfer said he got the idea for the series way back when he was “7 or 8 years old,” and his grandmother was his first editor. He’s on the road meeting fans on a book tour that wraps up July 31 in Los Angeles.
