5 Reasons Why The World Loves Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer’s newest book The Land Of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey comes out this week, marking the fifth release in the franchise. First rising to prominence in 2009 for his critically-acclaimed and award winning role as Kurt Hummel on Glee, Colfer has since excelled at everything he has put his mind to, whether it be acting or writing. With prestigious titles in both professions, it seems like Mr. Colfer can do no wrong — and rightly so.

Thus, what better time to take a look at 5 reasons why the world loves the multi-talented Chris Colfer.

He Is An Amazing Writer
Considering the fact that he does such an amazing job as an actor, it’s pretty awesome that Colfer is equally as good at something else. His acclaimed The Land Of Stories book series is a New York Times bestselling series, with each individual book ranking high on the list upon their releases — making him a four time New York Times bestselling author. The series is beloved by children (and adults) and continues to thrive upon this week’s release of the fifth installment.

However, the writing doesn’t stop there as Colfer also happens to be a very talented screenwriter. He wrote the screenplay for his 2012 film Struck By Lightning, as well as executive producing and starring in it. The film is an independent gem that is very relevant to many young people and it’s also got some great, hilarious moments, particularly between Colfer and Rebel Wilson. Colfer also novelised it in the book Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal. And finally, he also wrote the Season 5 episode of Glee “Old Dogs, New Tricks” which was one of the best episodes of the season.

With one final book left to come in The Land Of Stories series and a Young Adult novel Stranger Than Fan Fiction expected out in the next year, this creative genius isn’t running out of amazing ideas anytime soon.

He Is An Amazing Actor
Perhaps being best known to people for his portrayal of Kurt Hummel on Glee, Chris Colfer has been constantly recognized for his amazing performance. He shocked the world back in 2011 when he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor at the young age of 20. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award and won three consecutive People’s Choice Awards from 2013 – 2015 for his performance.

Kurt was one of the most beloved characters on the show and was constantly involved in major storylines. Whether it was the coming out storyline with his father Burt or the budding relationship he had with “Warbler” Blaine Anderson (the almighty “Klaine”) — Kurt was, for many, the heart and soul of Glee. And that was down to Colfer’s relatable performance. As Kurt, he had that ability to make you laugh with a single line and make you cry with a single look.

Having also starred in Struck By Lightning, he was brilliant as the arrogant but angry at the world Carson Phillips. Colfer also had two hilarious guest appearances on Hot In Cleveland and can next be seen in the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.

Chris Colfer is, without a doubt, one of the greatest young actors in the world at the moment and I hope we get to see him back on our TV screens again very soon.

He Has An Incredible Voice
Some people are just amazing at everything they do. Chris Colfer may be known for his acting and his writing, but something he should be equally recognised for is his singing. Having regularly performed moving solos and heartfelt duets on Glee, Colfer’s vocal range is quite literally out of this world.

I had the pleasure of hearing him sing live at the Glee Live Tour back in 2011 and can honestly say that he has one of the best voices I have ever heard. With the ability to perform sassy Broadway numbers, pop classics and powerful ballads, Colfer’s Kurt Hummel found himself giving the almighty Rachel Berry a run for her money on more than one occasion. From Whitney Houston to Madonna, Kurt could literally sing anything and was rightfully recognised as one the best singers on TV.

With upcoming novels and film appearances, Colfer is keeping his writing and acting talent alive and well — I only hope that we get to see him sing again too. With a voice described as both powerful and angelic by fans and critics, it would be a shame if we didn’t get to hear him sing once more.

Single Ladies
Some moments will live on in TV history forever: “Who Shot J.R?”, Buffy vs Dracula, and of course, the final episode of Friends. Then there’s Glee’s Kurt Hummel dancing perfectly in sync to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” in his bedroom while wearing a unitard. He was also accompanied by Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Brittany (Heather Morris — who was brought in to teach the choreography to the actors and ended up staying on as Brittany). Colfer kept up with the professionals and added an element of sass to the choreography that we never knew it needed before then. From this hilarious moment, we knew Kurt was the one to watch and it instantly transformed the supporting character into a main character.

The moment is one that we will never forget and every single time I hear “Single Ladies”, I can’t help but smile, remembering this moment of TV genius.

He’s An Inspiration To So Many People
But despite all of those incredibly true reasons, perhaps the reason why the world loves Chris Colfer so much is because he’s an inspiration. His character’s entire storyline on Glee dealt with important issues that were incredibly relevant at the time and had never been done on TV before.

The bullying Kurt endured for being an openly gay teenager shined a light on what was happening all around the world as it wasn’t dealt with enough in the media before then. Furthermore, the relationship between Kurt and Blaine was the first time a teenage gay couple had been portrayed on television. For many it was shocking, but it was highlighting the fact that society was accepting people for who they were. Colfer used the platform of Glee to relay that nobody should be afraid of being who they really are. Stemming from this, he is an active supporter of the “It Gets Better” campaign, for which he produced an “It Gets Better” video.

He was also the co-chair for the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party in 2013 and 2014. Colfer also supports the adoption of animals from shelters, having adopted both his cat Brian and dog Cooper.

Aside from all of that, he’s also an inspiration to anybody with dreams. Being on Glee, he was part of a community that taught its fans to dream big and to go out and achieve said dreams. Just look at the man himself, he’s a Golden Globe winning actor, New York Times bestselling author and Grammy nominated singer. His inspiring work saw him be featured on the cover of Time magazine, listed as one of their 100 most influential people in 2011, again at the young age of 20.

There you have it, just some of the countless reasons why the world loves Chris Colfer. With all this fame and success surrounding him, he has remained grounded and seems like a really down to earth, nice guy. If there was ever a young man who was meant to be part of the entertainment world, it’s Chris Colfer. He can act, write, sing (and dance) and he manages to do all this while being an inspiration to so many kids out there.

Having already accomplished so much at the young age of 26, expect to see Colfer sticking around, both in our bookstores and on our TV screens. This creative genius has so much more to give.
